Math Makeover

I am just lovin' Debbie Diller's Math Work Station book!  After moving my classroom 6 years in a row... I needed to reorganize this summer.  I started by doing just what Ms. Diller suggests... empty those cupboards, take everything out of the containers and throw stuff away (I mean donate).  This was not an easy task considering the outrageous amount of math materials we are "given" as 1st grade teachers in my district.  I shouldn't complain about having "too much" but honestly, wouldn't you complain if you had to store all this?
Yep - enough math stuff to cover 8 student desks!

View 1 - I had to stand on the table to get this picture.

So I worked and I worked and I worked. Now... for the after pictures!

This is my new and improved math cupboard!

I still need to label the bins, but I'm just so excited about how organized it is that I can hardly wait to use some of it to teach (and put it right back of course).

My math work station area...

Here is the sign I made for my math work station area.  You can click on the picture if you 'd like to download it.

The numbers I used for my math work station bins can be found in one of my previous posts.  Here it is.

Off to bed...

  1. Love the sign and numbers! Thanks so much for sharing.

I am super jealous of all of your math manipulatives! I still haven't gotten a chance to check out my room's stuff but I have a bad feeling about what I will find. When my school orders new curricula, they typically only order the student books and teacher's manual... I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!

  2. I totally understand!! I actually did that exact same thing today too. I got a LOT of math manipulatives from 2 teachers who retired last year and it was TOO MUCH! I got rid of a lot of stuff today by putting it in our extra room for another teacher if we get one. YAY for purging and organizing! :) it makes you feel good, doesn't it?

  3. Thank you for sharing the pics of your manips. I now have the incentive I've needed to get mine organized! They waxed my room last week and I'm hoping I can get into it sometime this week to start organizing!
