Using The CAFE Book by Gail Boushey and Joan Mosher has really helped me focus my mini-lessons during reader's workshop.
One of the strategies from our CAFE menu that I am constantly revisiting with my students is "check for understanding". I made a form to help my students record their thinking in writing as we "check for understanding". We use the form throughout the year and the students do a pair share after they complete their writing.
I see this book/strategy posted on several blogs. Is this a resource you use school-wide or just something that you've read and implemented on your own? I would love something with ideas on how to better teach the comprehension skills our reading program emphasizes.

Many of the teachers in my building use the CAFE Menu (and ideas) from the The CAFE Book. It is a great resource for teaching strategies for comprehension, accuracy, fluency and vocabulary.
